Have you been told you have prediabetes? Do you have a family history of diabetes and want to learn your risks? Come to this one-session class taught by a registered dietitian who will help you understand what puts you at risk and how to take control of your future. Learn how blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, and blood sugar can work for you instead of against you. Come ready to set some goals to get started on the path to good health.

Healthy Balance (a National Diabetes Prevention Program)

Healthy Balance is a one-year weight management and diabetes prevention program designed for adults with prediabetes or for those who want to lose weight. The Healthy Balance program is an alternate curriculum for National Diabetes Prevention Program recognized by the CDC.

Healthy Balance empowers you to maintain long-lasting healthy lifestyle changes by:

  • Eating healthy 
  • Increasing physical activity 
  • Reducing stress 
  • Problem-solving & being more mindful 

 The program has two phases with a total of 28 classes: 

  • Phase 1: Healthy Balance – Weight Loss
  • Phase 2: Lifestyle – Maintenance 

Sessions are led by trained lifestyle health coaches with experience in nutrition, behavior change, fitness, and group facilitation.

Class 1: Diabetes: The Basics

Class 1 is required before taking this class. Bring the book and other materials that you were given in class one.

  • Carbohydrate counting

  • Dining out and alcohol guidelines

Class 3: Diabetes: Managing Health Risks

Class 1 is required before taking this class, and it is highly recommended that you take the classes in the order that they are listed. Bring the materials that you were given in classes one and two.

  • Short-and long-term complications
  • Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia treatment
  • Sick days guidelines
  • Blood glucose pattern management
  • Heart healthy eating (sodium, types of fat)
  • Foot care

Heart Healthy Living

Heart Failure University

Heart Failure University is a series of workshops available to all patients and their family members who are dealing with this diagnosis. Over a period of four weeks,
you will learn more about what causes heart failure, how to cope with the symptoms, and what options are available for the future. During this time, a
multi-disciplinary group of cardiologists, pharmacists, nutritionists and other professionals will discuss the issues that this disease process may bring into your life.

This class is taught by a practitioner that specializes in heart failure, along with a nurse, a behavioral health clinician, a registered dietitian, and exercise physiologist.

KIDNEY DISEASE

Your Kidney Care Options

Deciding on the best option for treating late stage kidney disease can be hard. This class will help you decide what is best for you. In this class you will learn about:

  • Hemodialysis
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Kidney transplant

This class also reviews care for kidney disease like changing your diet, meal planning, and medicines.

Living Well with Kidney Disease

Learn how to take control of your kidney disease. In this class you will learn about:

  • Causes
  • Stages
  • Symptoms
  • Medicines
  • Lifestyle changes

You will also learn how to protect your kidneys and slow the progression of kidney disease. This three-hour class is free. It is taught by a pharmacist and renal dietitian.

Kidney B.E.A.N.

Learn about nutrition and your kidneys. You will better understand what foods to avoid and what foods are good for you. A chef will show you how to prepare a healthy meal that is designed for you at any stage of kidney disease.

10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause memory, thinking, and behavior problems that interfere with daily living. The Alzheimer’s Association® developed the new 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s education program to help people recognize common signs of the disease and know what to watch for in themselves and others. The free one-hour program:

  • Explores typical age-related changes.
  • Describes common signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
  • Offers tips for how to approach someone about memory concerns.
  • Explains the importance of early detection and benefits of diagnosis.
  • Details possible tests and assessments for the diagnostic process.
  • Identifies helpful Alzheimer’s Association resources

Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body

At any age, there are lifestyle habits we can adopt to help maintain or even potentially improve our health. These habits may also help to keep our brains healthy as we age and possibly delay the onset of cognitive decline. To help people age well, the Alzheimer’s Association® is offering the Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research program. This workshop covers four areas of lifestyle habits that are associated with healthy aging:

  • Cognitive activity.
  • Physical health and exercise.
  • Diet and nutrition.
  • Social engagement.

In each area, we will discuss what we know, drawing on current research, as well as what we can do — steps to take now to improve or maintain overall health in each area. Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research is designed for individuals of any age who are looking for information on ways to age as well as possible.
