Labor Induction
When you near the end of your pregnancy, your OBGYN provider will discuss options for your delivery, including labor induction (preparation of the cervix for labor). Labor induction may be an option if:
- Your pregnancy has been low-risk
- You are nearing your due date
- You do not go into spontaneous labor after your due date
At Kaiser Permanente, we may use a dilatator called Dilapan-S® which is used to soften and dilate the cervix. It is placed in the office. Potential advantages include:
- Starting the induction process in the comfort of your home
- Allows freedom of movement
- Less time in the hospital and promotes successful vaginal delivery
- Does not contain drugs or medication
If you have any questions, please talk with your providers to learn more.
