Choosing a pediatrician

Selecting your baby’s very own doctor

Kaiser Permanente’s care team of pediatricians, family practice doctors, and supporting providers look forward to meeting your new family member and providing exceptional care for your child from birth through age 21.

  1. If your baby will be staying on your Kaiser Permanente health plan, please click here on how to enroll your newborn in your health plan.
  2. Select your baby’s doctor
  • Go to kp.org/doctors to search our provider directory. We have 23 convenient locations across metro Atlanta that you can take your child to for their visits.
  • Once you select a provider, please call 404-365-0966 to establish a health record number for your child as soon as you are able after delivery. You can also let the appointment line know your selection for your baby’s doctor. From there, confirm your follow up appointments for your newborn.
  • If your newborn will not be following up with a Kaiser Permanente provider, please make sure you have established care for your newborn before discharge from the hospital.

Meeting your baby’s very own doctor

We encourage you to schedule a “Meet the Pediatrician /Family Practice Doctor” visit prior to your delivery to meet your baby’s doctor and discuss any questions you may have.

To schedule a “Meet the Pediatrician/Family Practice Doctor” visit, please call 404-365-0966 to schedule. We offer both video visits and in-person visits.

What to expect with Kaiser Permanente Pediatrics or Family Practice Doctors

Your newborn will be examined multiple times during your baby’s first year. Frequent checkups are needed to monitor your infant’s growth and weight and feedings, check for jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin), provide immunizations, monitor your child’s development, and answer all the questions you are likely to have.

We believe that administering immunizations on time according to the CDC and American Academy of Pediatric recommendations is the best way to protect your child against several preventable diseases.

Here are the milestones we like to check up on your baby

  • 3 days after discharge
  • 2 weeks of age
  • 1 month of age
  • 2 months of age (first immunizations given)
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
