Tongue-tie\/Frenotomy<\/h1>\n

Breastfeeding is natural, but learning how to breastfeed takes patience and practice when your baby has tongue-tie.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n

What is tongue-tie?<\/h2>\n

Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) happens when the tissue that attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth (lingual frenulum) is too short and tight. This can limit the tongue\u2019s movement. Tongue-tie is present at birth. It is often hereditary, which means other family members may have the same condition.[\/vc_column_text][toggles style=”default”][toggle color=”Default” title=”How do I know if my baby is tongue-tied?”][vc_column_text]To tell if your baby is tongue-tied, watch your baby stick out his or her tongue. Babies often imitate what others do, so try sticking out your tongue with your face about 12 inches from your baby\u2019s face. If your baby is unable to fully extend the tongue or the tongue looks heart shaped, have your baby\u2019s doctor or your lactation consultant examine your baby.<\/p>\n
