Cancer Care

At Kaiser Permanente, each new cancer case is reviewed by an integrated team. This includes surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurse navigators, and other specialists.

Together, these specialists review, assess, and develop treatment options based on the member’s unique needs. This team-based approach also reduces the stress of unnecessary appointments and helps put our patients on the road to a speedy recovery.

Kaiser Permanente offers a suite of highly specialized services, giving members complete access to all cancer treatment types, including breast cancer, lung cancer, GI cancers, gynecologic cancers, and multiple myelomas.

Family Ties

Between 5% and 10% of all cancers have a hereditary link, which means that changes (or mutations) in specific genes are passed from one blood relative to another. People who inherit one of these gene changes will have a higher risk of developing cancer at some point in their life. Our genetic counseling experts can help you understand this risk and subsequent risk to other family members.

Genetic Counseling

Genetic counseling can address questions about hereditary cancer, including risk to family members, options for family planning, insurance concerns, cancer screening, prevention, and treatment plans.

At Kaiser Permanente, licensed certified genetic counselors can assess the risk of cancer in a family, explain genetic testing options, and coordinate genetic testing when appropriate.

They can help members and their healthcare providers use personalized genetic information to discuss ways to reduce a patient’s cancer risk.

Advanced Tools and Technologies

As cancer treatments become more sophisticated, our oncologists, hematologists, and surgeons continually evaluate and adopt the latest diagnostic technologies and treatment services. In 2021, we expanded our Kaiser Permanente women’s cancer program to treat cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, and cervical cancer with our own gynecologic oncologist team, a specialty that is often difficult to find across the country.
